NEET 2021 Counselling Process explained! Check key dates, fees, and reservation details

The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) 2021 is all set to be conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) on 12 September 2021. Hundreds of hours of your preparation for the NEET 2021 exam will be assessed in three hours. The exam’s ranks and scores, which will decide the fate of lakhs of aspirants dreaming of making it to a medical college, will be out soon, following which begins tensed rounds of NEET 2021 counselling. 

The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) will begin the NEET 2021 counselling soon after the NTA releases aspirants’ rankings and marks. However, candidates planning to pursue MBBS/BDS/BAMS/BSMS/BUMS/BHMS or any other undergraduate medical courses from a recognised medical/dental/AYUSH or any other colleges or top institutes like AIIMS and JIPMER need to apply for NEET 2021 counselling. 

MCC to conduct counselling for NEET 2021  

The counselling for the upcoming session will be conducted by the MCC completely online. From candidates registering for counselling to MCC releasing the cut-off for several colleges, the complete process of NEET 2021 counselling is expected to be conducted online. 

However, candidates may need to take note of the fact that MCC is only allowed to conduct counselling for the 15% seats under the All India Quota (AIQ). Moreover, the NEET 15% AIQ counselling is expected to be conducted in three rounds.

NEET 2021 counselling dates 

MCC is likely to begin the counselling for NEET 2021 in the month of October 2021. Lastly, the counselling process will release the counselling schedule after the declaration of results by NTA. 

NEET 2021 counselling process 

The counselling process for NEET 2021 will begin with registration, after which candidates will be asked to share their preferences for the colleges. However, based on the cut-off, aspirants will be allotted colleges. 

At this point, candidates will need to lock their choice of colleges. Also, the process will repeat two more times, giving more chances to aspirants to grab a seat in their preferred medical college.

Here’s a step-wise registration process for NEET 2021 counselling: 

Step 1: Firstly, go to the official MCC website and select the ‘New Registration’ option. 

Step 2: Share the required details such as your roll number, application number, candidate name, mother name, date of birth, mobile number, and email ID

Step 3: On the same page, you need to enter the Security PIN.  

Step 4: After submitting the correct details, you’ll successfully register for NEET 2021 counselling. You’ll get a new roll number and password for the counselling process. 

Step 5: You’ll now need to log in to the MCC portal using the new credentials. 

Step 6: On the next page, you need to enter your details such as roll number, name, mother name, date of birth again

Step 7: You’ll now be shown the details that you had shared with the NTA. In this step, you need to verify the details, following which you need to select the ‘Confirm Registration’ option. Moreover, the Candidates will get a registration slip that you need to save with them. 

Step 8: Candidates now need to pay a refundable and a non-refundable fee for NEET 2021 counselling. Lastly, you’ll be provided with multiple payments options such as credit or debit card and net banking for paying the counselling fee.

Step 9: After paying the fees, students are given the ‘Choice Locking’ facility on a selected day. The facility, which remains open for a few hours, allows candidates to submit their preferences for colleges. You can arrange colleges according to your preference.  

Step 10: Once you have successfully arranged the colleges, you need to select the ‘Lock Choices’ option. Once locked, candidates won’t be able to change their preferences, so you need to pay extra attention while selecting colleges. 

Step 11: Once registrations end, MCC will allot medical college seats to the candidates after each round of counselling. After publishing the list, MCC issues seat allotment letters to selected aspirants. 

Step 12: Candidates need to report to the allotted colleges to complete their admission process. Besides the allotment letter, candidates are required to carry several other documents for the counselling and admission process. 

Documents required for NEET 2021 Admission process

Candidates will need to carry several important documents, along with their self-attested photocopies, for the NEET 2021 counselling and admission process.

Here’s the list of documents required for medical college’s counselling and admission process:

1. NEET admit card

2. NEET result or rank letter

3. 10th class passing certificate and mark sheet 

4. 12th Class passing certificate and mark sheet 

5. Eight passport-sized photographs, which should be the same as the one used in the application form

6. NEET seat allotment letter

7. Any identity proof from Aadhar card/PAN card/Passport/ Driving License/Voter ID

You can contact MCC via its official phone numbers: 0120-4073500 and 1800 102 7637 (Toll-free number). MCC will entertain the counselling-related queries from 9:00 AM to 8:30 PM.

2. When will NEET 2021 counselling start?

Counselling for NEET 2021 is likely to start from October 2021, soon after the NTA releases the competitive exam results. MCC, the competent authority for the counselling process, will reveal important dates for counselling only after the results are out. 

3. Do candidates need to register for NEET 2021 counselling for AYUSH admissions?

Yes, aspirants planning to get an undergraduate seat in a college for AYUSH courses need to register for NEET 2021 counselling. Such candidates will need to select AYUSH UG counselling at the time of registration.

Yes, aspirants can apply for admissions in reputed colleges and institutes like AIIMS via MCC NEET 2021 counselling. Also, through MCC’s counselling, you can also apply for AIIMS, JIPMER, BHU, AMU, and other medical colleges. 

5. Can you get a refund for MCC counselling 2021’s registration fees? 

No, the NEET counselling 2021’s registration fee is non-refundable. However, you’ll get a security deposit refund if you don’t take admission via MCC’s counselling.

6. Can candidates apply for BSc Nursing colleges via NEET 2021?

Traditionally, nursing courses followed a completely separate admission process. However, JIPMER has recently started accepting applications based on the performance in NEET 2021.

7. What does Free Exit mean in NEET 2021 counselling?

Candidates, who fail to report the allocated institute in the first round of counselling, remain eligible to participate in the following counselling rounds. The second chance given to candidates is termed as ‘Free Exit.’

8. What happens if candidates fail to lock the choices in NEET 2021 counselling? 

Candidates need not worry if they fail to lock the NEET 2021 counselling choices during the registration period because the system automatically fills up the options on their behalf. However, candidates need to submit the choices within the designated period for a successful registration.
