The National Defense Academy exam or as it’s commonly referred to as ‘The NDA exam’ is set by the UPSC. There will primarily be two stages in the NDA exam 2022. Firstly, there is a written exam stage that the candidates need to pass. Then subsequently the qualified candidates need to pass the SSB interview.

When was UPSC NDA 2021 Recruitment Notification Released?

The official notification for UPSC NDA Exam 2021 Recruitment was released on 9th June 2021. An Examination will be conducted by the Union Public Service Commission on 5th September 2021 for admission to the Army, Navy and Air Force wings of the NDA for the 148th Course, and for the 110th Indian Naval Academy Course (INAC) commencing from 2nd July 2022.

What are the Educational qualifications required for UPSC NDA Exam?

For The Army Wing of National Defence Academy – 12th Class pass of the 10+2 pattern of School or equivalent examination conducted by a State Education Board or a University.
For Air Force and Naval Wings of National Defence Academy and for the 10+2 Cadet Entry Scheme at the Indian Naval Academy – 12th Class pass of the 10+2 pattern of School or equivalent with Physics and Mathematics conducted by a State Education Board or a University.
Note: Candidates who are appearing in the 12th Class under the 10+2 pattern of School Education or equivalent examination can also apply for this examination.

What is the Exam Pattern for UPSC NDA Written Exam?

The subjects of the written examination, the time allowed and the maximum marks allotted to each subject will be as follows: 

Sections of The Exam  – 2 (Written And Interview)
No. of Paper in the Written Exam  – 2 (Math And GAT)
Total of Stages in the Interview – 2
Duration of the Math Paper – 2.5 Hours (2 PM to 4.30 PM)
Duration of the G.A.T Paper – 2.5 Hours (10 AM to 12.30 PM)
Total Marks in the Written Exam – 900 (300 for Maths, 600 for GAT)
Total Marks in the SSB Interview Session – 900 marks
Type of Questions in the Written Exam  – Objective Type/ MCQs
Mode of the Exam  – Pen & Paper (Offline)
So as given in the list, the total duration of the written exam is 5 hrs.

Will there be any Negative marking in NDA Exam?

There will be Negative Marking of One-third marks for wrong answers marked by a candidate in the Objective Type Question Papers.

Will the UPSC NDA Exam be conducted in Online or Offline mode?

UPSC NDA 2022 Exam will be conducted in offline mode consisting of Objective Multiple Choice Questions.

Will there be a Sectional cutoff in UPSC NDA Exam?

No, there will be no sectional cut-off in the exam.

Where were UPSC NDA 2021 Exam Centers Located?

The Examination will be held at the following Centres:  Aizawl, Agartala, Ahmedabad, Prayagraj, Bhopal, Chandigarh, Chennai, Cuttack, Dehradun, Bengaluru, Bareilly, Delhi, , Gangtok, Dharwad, Dispur Hyderabad, Imphal, Itanagar, Jorhat, Jaipur, Jammu, Kochi, Kohima, Kolkata, Lucknow, Madurai, Mumbai, Nagpur, Port Blair, Panaji , Patna, Raipur, Ranchi, Sambalpur, Shillong, Shimla, Srinagar, Tirupati, Thiruvananthapuram, Udaipur and Visakhapatnam.

What are the Physical standards needed for UPSC NDA Selection?

The candidate must be in good physical and mental health and free from any disease or disability which is likely to interfere with the efficient performance of Military duties. The minimum acceptable height is 157 cms (162.5 cms. for Air Force). Chest should be well developed. Fully expanded chest should not be less than 81 cms. The minimum range of expansion after full inspiration should be 5 cms.

Distance Vision (Corrected): Better Eye 6/6; Worse Eye 6/9. Myopia must not be more than -2.5D including astigmatism and manifest hypermetropia not more than +3.5D including Astigmatism. The Colour vision standard will be CP-III (Defective Safe).

Are phones allowed in NDA exam or in NDA?

No, they’re not. As per the rules of the NDA, mobile phones are prohibited. There is STD booth and squadron land line phone in the academy which a cadet can use at the time of urgency.

Is 3 months enough for NDA?

The competition for this exam is very tough and without good preparation, it is not possible to crack it. When only three months are left, it is time for candidates to work hard and make use of the limited time available.

Can an average Student Crack NDA? 

Yes, Ofcourse. NDA exam just needs aspirants to be smart and hard working to cover English, GK, Mathematics and Science Subjects in stipulated time period. Start preparation for NDA exam with NCERT Books and 12th Board Books. .

Do NDA students get holidays?

Technically none. Every day is a new challenge in NDA. Only on Sundays, you may get some time in senior terms.

Do NDA students get salaries?

During the period of training, candidates get a stipend or salary of Rs. 21,000 per month. In-hand salaries of NDA Officers after training: Lieutenant in the post to start for NDA Officers and the salary is: Basic salary Rs. 15,600 – 39,100 per month grade pay.

What is the age limit for the NDA exam?

To put it simply, candidates should be between the age of 16.5 years and 19.5 years to be eligible for the exam. Females and married male candidates are not eligible to apply for NDA Exam.

Can we use a calculator in the NDA exam?

Candidates must strictly follow guidelines issued by UPSC NDA on the day of the exam: Use of calculator, Mathematical or Log Table is not allowed in the exam

What kind of training do the cadets undergo after they have finished with the NDA? 

After they have finished three years of preparation in NDA, the candidates shall spend:
One year at IMA (for the Army candidates) or
One year for Air Force Academy (for the Air Force candidates) or
One year at Naval Academy (for the Navy candidates)

When does one apply for the NDA exam?

Candidates can apply in month of December for April cycle of the exam and May for August cycle.
