What is the range of MCAT scores?

Your four-section results will be added together for a total score range of 472-528 on the MCAT, with 500 being the middle.

The MCAT does not have a curve, and admissions committees simply look at the scaled section and total scores when making decisions. In the admissions process, medical schools will only look at your scaled results, not your total percentile.

Which MCAT score is the highest?

A 528 on the MCAT is the highest possible score, with a 132 on each of the four parts.

What is the Average MCAT Score (2021-22)?

Your overall score will be in the range of 472-528, with a 500 average. Each of the four MCAT parts has a score ranging from 118 to 132, with an average of 125.

The average score of applicants accepted to allopathic medical schools was 511.5. The average score for osteopathic medical students entering school is 503.

These typical scores can help you determine your competitiveness for medical school admission and whether or not you should retake the MCAT.

When should you take the MCAT exam?

When you take the MCAT is determined by a number of factors, which you may figure out by asking yourself the following questions:

Do you intend to apply to medical school following your fourth year of college or will you take a gap year?

How much time do you think you’ll need to prepare?

Have you finished all of the required courses?

Ideally, you should pick a date that permits you to study for a long period of time. You’ll also need to figure out when your score will be released so you can submit it early in the medical school admission process.

If you take the exam in the spring of your junior year, you’ll have plenty of time to repeat it in the summer or the following autumn if you need to.

What is a good MCAT score?

An excellent score is one that is over 510 and has no section scores below 127. A “good” score, on the other hand, varies from application to the candidate. A score of 515 or higher on the result will make you a considerably more competitive applicant, and a score of 517 or above should almost ensure admission.

Your ideal score, on the other hand, should be in line with accepted candidates’ average scores at your desired medical schools. The average score for Columbia Medical School students is 520, while the average score for UT Southwestern Medical School students is 515.

As a result, you must be realistic about which medical schools you are competitive for based on your rating.

Where to apply on the basis of MCAT score?

These are just some broad ideas for where to apply depending on your MCAT score and a 3.5 or higher GPA. These options may vary based on where you live, your ethnicity, your socioeconomic level, and other variables.

MCAT score of 505 or lower: Consider applying to allopathic and osteopathic medical schools in your state.

MCAT score ranges of 506–509: Apply to medical schools in your state. Apply to 15–20 osteopathic medical schools as well as a few more allopathic medical schools.

• If your MCAT score is between 510 and 514, apply to your state medical schools as well as 25 to 30 carefully chosen allopathic medical schools. Consider applying to a couple top-tier osteopathic medical schools, based on other characteristics in your profile.

MCAT score of 514 or higher: Apply to 25 allopathic medical schools as well as your state medical schools.

Frequently Asked Questions

When is the MCAT result?

Around 30-35 days after the test date, candidates will be able to view their 2021 exam results online. These results can be seen and downloaded via a candidate’s AAMC account.
Five independent scores will appear on the result: four for each of the exam’s distinct components, and one for the total of all four sectional scores.

What is the duration of the MCAT exam?

On the Test Day, you should budget a little more than 7.5 hours for the exam, including test-taking time and any breaks, such as lunch. The time you check-in at the testing center is not included in this calculation. It’s vital to be on time and prepared.

Is revaluation possible for the MCAT exam?

You can request a re-evaluation of your test if the following requirements are met:
1. Examinees will be given entry to the testing center provided they have appropriate identification.
2. The applicants must present a valid ID at the exam center.
3. Applicants must arrive 30 minutes before the examinations begin. The applicant will not be allowed to enter the exam center after that and will not be given a refund.

What has changed in the MCAT exam format?

The exam format has been revised multiple times. The original time frame has been halved. The test used to take over seven hours. This has been cut down to around five hours.
Does this indicate that answering a specific question will take less time? After all, everything has its benefits and drawbacks. While the time limit has been decreased, it is inescapable that each question will receive less time.

How many sections are there in the MCAT exam?

The MCAT’s extensive content is divided into four test sections that make up the exam:
• Physical and Chemical Foundations of Biological Systems
• Biological and Biochemical Foundations of Living Systems
• Critical Thinking and Reasoning Skills
