The first step for students aspiring to become engineers in India is to clear the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE Main 2022). Conducted by the autonomous testing organisation, the National Testing Agency (NTA), JEE Main helps assess candidates for admission to renowned higher educational institutions, including the Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT) in the country.

However, bagging a top score in national-level entrance examinations like JEE Main requires serious preparation. Latest Update on JEE Main 2022-

  • This year, the NTA has additionally implemented negative marking for section B. Previously, there was no negative marking on numerical type questions. 
  • The National Testing Agency (NTA) has expanded the JEE Main 2022 exam centres to 500+ cities in India and 13 abroad. When filling out the JEE Main 2022 application form, applicants will be able to select up to four test centres.
  • The NTA has chosen to hold the JEE Main 2022 test in two sessions this year, April and May.
  • NTA will not give any JEE Main application correction opportunities once the application procedure is completed.
  • The NTA has reopened the online application process for the JEE Main Session 1. The new dates can be seen below.

How to Apply for JEE Main 2022: Step-by-Step Process

Like multiple exam sessions, the online registration process will also be carried out in 2 sessions—April and May 2022. Candidates must ensure their eligibility before applying and provide valid details during registration to avoid rejection of their forms. 

Step 1: Registration

To begin with, students must complete the JEE Main 2022 registration process by entering basic information such as their email address, phone number, and name.

Step 2: Fill out the required details

In the next step, Candidates need to log in to their account using the created application number and password and then provide all of the relevant credentials and details.

Step 3: Upload the documents

Candidates need to upload the necessary documents in the requested format.

Step 4: Application fee payment

Make the JEE application fee payment. To make a payment, choose Debit card/Credit card/Net banking, etc. and follow the on-screen instructions.

Step 5: Save and Submit the application form-

Finally, after making a successful payment, candidates should take a printout of the submitted JEE Main 2022 application form.

The application fees for the exam will be paid through online mode. The fees can be paid using a debit card, credit card, net banking, PAYTM or UPI method.

JEE Main 2022 Application Fees

JEE Main 2022 Eligibility Criteria

Candidates who have successfully completed their intermediate level education in 2020 or this year, or those who are appearing in 2022, can apply for JEE Main 2022. There are no age restrictions for appearing in the exam.

  • Indian Nationals and international candidates (with the necessary AIU prescribed marks) can apply for JEE Mains 2022. 
  • Candidates who are willing to apply for B.E./B.Tech admission should have passed 12th level or equivalent with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects and Chemistry, Biology, and any other technical vocational as optional subjects. 
  • Candidates should have passed 12th level with Mathematics as the mandatory subject if they are applying for B. Plan, while they must have passed 12th level with Physics, Mathematics, and Chemistry as mandatory subjects when applying for B. Arch.
  • Candidates with diplomas are also eligible to apply. They will get admission to IITs only.

The JEE Main (B.E/B.Tech) paper will include questions from physics, chemistry, and mathematics subjects. For B. Arch, questions about mathematics, drawing, and aptitude can be asked. While for B. Plan, the question paper will comprise questions from mathematics, planning-based and aptitude sections.

JEE Main 2022 Paper-II & III (B.Arch/B.Plan) Syllabus

Part I:

  • Awareness of persons, places, Buildings, Materials. Objects, Texture related to Architecture and build—environment.
  • Visualising three-dimensional objects from two-dimensional drawings.
  • Visualising. different sides of three-dimensional objects.
  • Analytical Reasoning Mental Ability (Visual, Numerical and Verbal).

Part II

  • Three dimensional – perception: Understanding and appreciation of scale and proportion of objects, building forms and elements, colour texture, harmony and contrast.
  • Design and drawing of geometrical or abstract shapes and patterns in pencil.
  • Transformation of forms both 2 D and 3 D union, subtraction, rotation, development of surfaces and volumes, Generation of Plan, elevations and 3 D views of objects.
  • Creating two dimensional and three-dimensional compositions using given shapes and forms.

JEE Main 2022 Exam Pattern

JEE Main 2022 will be conducted in a CBT (Computer Based Test) mode. However, a part of Paper 2, i.e., the drawing test, will be in offline (pen and paper-based) mode. The question paper will be in two separate sections.

JEE Main Exam Centres:

The NTA has revealed the exam cities for the JEE Main 2022 examinations. The total number of test cities has increased from 334 to 514. When filling out the JEE Main application form, candidates must select four of their preferred exam cities. Candidates will be assigned one of the four exam cities from which they must take the exam. The following are some facts about JEE Main Exam Centres 2022.

  • Candidates will get a list of exam cities for filling out the form depending on their address while registering.
  • When applying for JEE Main 2022, candidates must pick any four cities as their preferred test centre location. 
  • The JEE Main 2022 admit card will include the exam centre and city. Candidates will require their login information and their JEE Main 2022 application number and date of birth to check the exam city assigned to them.

JEE Main Cutoff 2022

There will be two types of cutoff for JEE Main 2022: admission cutoff and qualifying cutoff. The admission cutoff will mark the opening and closing ranks for admission into the undergraduate institutes.

The qualifying cutoff will be released during the counselling process by the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA). Candidates meeting the cut off will be eligible for admission.

JEE Main Counselling 2022

The JoSAA counselling process will be held online in nearly seven rounds. Candidates will get admission into B.E/B.NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs, offer tech courses. The seats will be allocated based on merit, availability of seats, and preferred choices.

JEE Main Participating Institutions 

Along with all the other details, NTA will soon release the list of institutes participating in JEE Main 2022. Currently, there are 23506 total seats in NITs, 5643 seats in IIITs and 5620 seats in GFTIs. 

However, it is expected that most premier engineering institutes in India will accept JEE Main scores for 2022 admissions. Besides the IITs, the JEE Main score is accepted by 31 NITs, 28 CFTIs, and 25 IIITs spread across the country, among other top-ranked colleges.

Q. Candidates can apply for more than one session of JEE Main?

A. Yes, there is an option to apply for more than one session (April/May 2022) and pay the fee accordingly. 

Q. Will the exam fees be refunded If any candidate wishes to withdraw from the session after paying the fees?

A. Yes, NTA will refund the fees if a candidate does not want to appear in the session or withdraw from the session after the fees are paid. In this case, the candidate needs to request during the application process of the session.

Q. Which score will be considered to prepare the merit list/ranking?

A. Candidates are given a choice to appear in one or more sessions. They will be given a score for each session. The candidate’s best NTA scores for all the sessions will be considered to prepare the merit list/ranking.
