If you’re wondering how this year’s AP tests will be conducted, you’re not alone. Check out the latest pattern – Because of the ongoing COVID-19 epidemic, there will be significant modifications to AP tests in 2021 that you should be aware of.

We’ll answer all of your burning questions concerning the changes to AP tests in 2021 in this guide. We’ll go over everything you need to know about the new AP exam criteria for 2021, including how the examinations will be conducted, the AP 2021 dates and official schedule, whether schools are accepting AP results for credit and placement, and three ideas for AP exam practice in 2021.

AP Exams are only given in May of each year and require enrollment in advance. In India, a few secondary schools provide both AP courses and AP Exams, but exclusively to its enrolled students. All students who are eligible to take the AP exam can take it at an authorized AP test facility.

Students in India who want to take AP Exams can register at any of the authorized AP test centres throughout the country if their institution does not offer the requested AP Exam (s).

Eligibility for the AP Exam in 2022

  • To register and take AP Exams, you must have a valid passport or another acceptable government-issued ID, such as an Aadhaar card.
  • At the time of the exams, you must be under the age of 21. (If you were born after May 31, 2001, you are in this category.)
  • Any or all of the four physics exams can be taken in the same year.
  • You cannot repeat an exam in the same year, but you can do so in the next year.
  • Calculus AB and Calculus BC cannot be taken in the same year.
  • You cannot take two tests on the same day or at the same time. Choose which exam you’d like to take first, and then schedule the other exam for the next testing window.
  • To register for the AP Computer Science Principles Exam, you must be enrolled in the associated AP course since there is a portfolio component that your AP teacher must examine in order to obtain a complete AP Exam score.

Advanced Placement Exam Pattern 2021:

Each of the 38 tests has its own set of requirements, although practically all of them have the following characteristics. The exam websites contain information on each subject.

  • The majority of tests last 2–3 hours.
  • Multiple-choice questions usually make up the first half of the exam.
  • For paper and pencil exams, you will choose 1 of 4-5 response options for each question and use a pencil to bubble in your choice on your AP answer sheet.
  • For the AP Chinese and AP Japanese Language and Culture Exams, you’ll enter your answers in the exam application.
  • The number of questions answered correctly determines your total exam score in the multiple-choice part.

Free-response questions, which require you to construct your own responses, usually make up the second section of the exam. Your comments may take the shape of an essay, a problem-solving solution, or spoken response, depending on the exam.
In most cases, you’ll be writing your response in pen in the free-response exam booklet for paper and pencil exams.
You’ll type your responses in the exam application for the AP Chinese and AP Japanese Language and Culture Exams.

Changes for AP Testing in 2021-22

To make AP testing more flexible and accessible for students, the College Board will offer numerous testing options in 2021. There are several modifications to former AP exam policies that you should be aware of as you prepare for the examinations with these new testing alternatives. Additional testing dates, mixed testing dates, mixed testing administration, and additional make-up testing dates are among the major changes to the AP tests this year compared to past years.

1 . AP Testing Schedules by School:

The AP exam schedule for 2021 includes three testing dates between early May and mid-June for each AP topic. This differs from previous years when each AP exam had only one testing date. In 2021, testing will be spread out across three weeks, which will be designated as Administrations 1, 2, and 3.

Instead of a national testing schedule like in the past, schools will collaborate with the College Board to determine which AP exam administration days will be offered at their school. The purpose is to assist schools in developing more flexible testing schedules to accommodate students while still adhering to COVID criteria in their respective areas. Pupils will not be able to select their testing day, but schools will do their utmost to select administration dates that best suit the needs of their students.

2. Additional format of AP Exam:

Second, in 2021, a variety of testing formats will be available. The traditional paper and pencil administration method as well as a digitally administered format will be available for most AP exams. All paper and pencil tests must be taken at school, although some digitally administered exams will be done from students’ homes with the help of an online proctor.

Though students will not be able to choose their testing as a medium, most AP examinations will likely have both a pencil and paper and a digital alternative to guarantee that all students can take them. Students should also be informed that this year’s AP tests, whether taken digitally or on paper, will be full-length. There will be no shortened AP exams in 2021.

3. Optional AP Testing at Home:

The College Board began offering at-home testing in 2020, and it appears that this trend will continue in 2021. This year, AP exams will be administered both in the classroom and at home. Separate exam administration will be provided on different testing dates, according to the College Board, though there aren’t many details on what that will entail just yet. We do know that schools will provide directions on where the AP examinations will be given.

4. Portfolio Extensions & Make-Up Dates:

Other special criteria are being accommodated by the College Board. The deadline for final digital submissions of AP Art and Design portfolios, AP Computer Science Principles (CSP), AP Seminar, and AP Research performance tasks, for example, has been extended until Thursday, May 20, 2021. Make-up testing will also be available following Administrations 2 and 3 for students who were unable to test during the original administration dates due to unforeseen circumstances.

5. There are no fees for canceling an exam:

The College Board is also cancelling all exam cancellation costs for 2021 owing to the various changes that schools and students have experienced over the last year as a result of COVID-19. Students would not be penalized if they need to cancel their AP exam after registering, unlike in prior years. This is true even if a student needs to postpone an AP exam until the day of the exam.

All students who engage in late testing at a particular school are required to take these other tests on the planned late-testing days and hours

You've put in a lot of effort this year to grasp college-level material. Don't give that up this chance to show them what you know and can do. Keep in mind that your education is a process, and the only way to progress is to dive right in. Greatness isn't something that just happens to individuals. You must be prepared to sit down and proclaim that this is the day.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q1. How many AP Exams am I allowed to take? What is the average number of tests that students take?

Each year, you may take as many AP Exams as you are prepared for. You have the option of taking only one or as many AP Exams as you choose, depending on how much college-level curriculum you’re ready to tackle.

Throughout their high school/secondary school careers, the average student takes three tests.

Q.2 What is the validity of my AP score?

Your AP score will be valid until you start college, regardless of whether you took it in Grade 9, 10, 11, or 12. Your results have been stored if your most recent AP Exam was more than four years ago.

Q3. Are AP scores accepted by universities outside the United States?

Yes, nearly 500 universities in over 75 countries, including the United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia, accept AP credits. Many colleges and universities accept AP scores for admissions, placement, and scholarship consideration.

Q4. What does it mean to have advanced placement credit?

Those who pass the Advanced Placement test, receive college credit for taking the course. This means that the student will have fewer courses to attend in college and will be able to save money on college tuition expenses.

Q5. Why isn’t my test center offering some AP Exams?

Certain AP Tests (such as AP Computer Science Principles, AP Seminar, and AP Research) are not administered in India because students must be registered in the course at their school and will most likely sit for these exams there as well.

Some test centres may not be able to give additional exams because they lack the appropriate equipment or resources, such as computers or recording devices for language exams and AP Music Theory.
